Spiti Valley Itinerary: Narkanda 1NT + Kalpa 1NT + Tabo 1NT + Kaza 2NT + Badhal 1NT

Spiti Valley : In the months of January and February as the harsh winter sets in, the snow covers the entire landscape of Spiti Valley making it monochrome. The temperatures plummet to -20° as Spiti becomes one of the most extreme places in India and yet the life in Spiti Valley goes on. From young kids on sleds to wild snow leopards on ridges, you can see them all trying to catch a little warmth under the sun.
If you have the will for the thrill of winter, we ‘Unadkya.com’ present you an opportunity to travel to Spiti Valley and experience life in winters. Join our Winter Drive to Spiti Valley.

1st Day: Chandigarh to Narkanda – Arrival & Transfer

Your journey into the majestic Himalayas begins from Chandigarh. As you leave the plains behind, the scenery transforms into winding mountain roads, dense pine forests, and charming apple orchards. Drive through Shimla and continue onward to the peaceful hill town of Narkanda, perched at an altitude of 9,000 feet. Breathe in the crisp mountain air and soak in the tranquil surroundings. If time and weather permit, visit Hatu Peak in the evening for stunning panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges.

2nd Day: Narkanda to Kalpa – Transfer Visit Sutlej Valley

Continuing on the windy roads, we descend to the Sutlej Valley near Rampur. The road meanders on the rock carved picturesque landscape of Kinnaur along the riverbank over Indo-Tibet highway. At Powari we take the road climbing above through Pine forests to reach Kalpa. Kalpa is a beautiful Himalayan village which offers one the best views of Snow Peaks right across the valley looming large in front of you. Kinner Kailash peak is one of the abodes of Lord Shiva. It is situated at an altitude of 3000m which helps in acclimatizing to the high altitude and journey ahead. Overnight accommodation at hotel.

3rd Day: Kalpa to Tabo – Transfer Visit Nako & Gue

We leave Kalpa to head into the high mountains. After a downhill climb to the highway we continue upstream of Sutlej witnessing the dramatic change in the landscape with every mile that passes by. With mountains becoming barren you are getting ever closer to Spiti Valley. At Nako you will see the artificial Nako lake before heading to Gue to see India’s own naturally preserved Mummy and continue to Tabo. ‘Tabo has a monastery 1021 years old which is also a UNESCO world heritage site. This ancient monastery is rich in Murals, Frescoes and Paintings that tell the story of Buddhist pantheon.

4th Day: Tabo to Kaza – Transfer Visit Dhankar & Lhalung & Mudh

Drive to Dhankar Monastery, perched on the edge of a 300m cliff is a sight to behold and looks straight out of a movie set. An hour trek takes you to the beautiful Dhankar Lake situated above the Dhankar village is a great way to get introduced to High Himalayan Trekking. After Dhankar you drive to Lhalung a lesser known village situated on the slopes in Lingti Valley also home to the most beautiful monastery of Spiti – Serkhong Gompa (The Golden Temple). Drive to Pin Valley – a tributary of the Spiti river, ‘Pin’ originates deep in the Trans Himalayan mountains leading to one of the ancient trade routes and popular trek of Bhaba Pass.

5th Day: Kaza – Kee, Kibber, Hikkim, Komic & Langza sightseeing

Begin your day early from Kaza and drive to Key Monastery, Spiti’s most iconic gompa perched dramatically above the valley. Continue to Kibber, one of the world’s highest inhabited villages, and then to the serene hamlet of Gette for panoramic views. Ascend to Hikkim to send a postcard from the world’s highest post office, followed by a visit to Komic, the highest motorable village with a charming monastery. Conclude your circuit at Langza, where a towering Buddha statue watches over fossil-rich slopes. Return to Kaza by evening, completing a breathtaking journey through Spiti’s high-altitude gems.

6th Day: Kaza to Rampur – Transfer Enroute Sightseeing

After a great Spitian experience we start our journey back to the cities but not without a final blast. We retrace the roads back to Kinnaur via Tabo, Nako till Powari. Here we climb up towards Recong Peo-the headquarters of Kinnaur and continue higher to the little village of Kalpa. Kalpa offers a magnificent view of Kinner Kailash range from up close and across the valley. Several iconic images have been captured from the main market of the village.
